Youth

The Youth Committee is responsible for the following:

Dianella Secondary College

DSC is our allocated link school in the Rotary linked school programme. It is the most culturally diverse secondary school in WA. This of course presents significant challenges, however, it is run by a highly motivated team, led by principle Debra Unwin and is achieving excellent results. The school motto is; dream, believe, succeed.

Rotary Four Way Test Speech Competition Year 10

The Rotary Four Way Test speaking competition encourages teachers and students from our link school to take part in this public speaking, confidence building and ethics consideration opportunity. It is a state-wide competition with club heats taking place at the end of Term 2 followed by a zone, district then a State final being conducted in conjunction with fellow Western Australian District 9465.

Rotary WA Driver Education (RWADE)

RWADE Is an excellent programme educating young people, who will be going on to get their driver's licence, on the responsibilities and potential dangers of owning and driving a motor vehicle.  Our own Lindsay Francis runs this programme at the district level.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, over the last three years, DSC has found difficulty with the logistics required to participate. To make up sufficient numbers, we include Como Secondary College.

The event has been held at Claremont Showgrounds each year and is on the 26th June.

Stan Perron Award

The Award Panel wishes to seek student candidates who may not be Dux or Sportsperson of the Year, but are very good students, both academically and at sport, make a contribution to the school community service and who emulate the elements of Rotary’s Four Way Test which Stan Perron built his business around.

Rotary Youth Exchange Function at Parliament House

Due to the proroguing of Parliament this event could not be held in April 2025.

Team Connect

The Chair of Team Connect, Margie Oldfield, was a guest speaker at a club meeting in early 2025r.  Team Connect is a charitable organisation which uses a cricket competition to engage teenage girls at risk of social isolation.  One of their teams is from our link school Dianella Secondary College.  TC is an established, successful programme and due to its involvement with DSC, the Board accepted a proposal to donate a sum of $1650 which will provide uniforms and healthy morning teas for the DSC Team.
