About Us

The Rotary Club of Matilda Bay was chartered in 1979. The club meets on the first and third Wednesday morning of each month at 7.00 for 7.20 for a one hour breakfast meeting at the excellent Matilda Bay Restaurant. We regularly have guest speakers who are interesting, challenging or inspirational – or all three! The atmosphere of our meetings is bright, full of fun and good friendship.

When there is a fifth Wednesday in the month our meetings are held via Zoom

The Rotary Club of Matilda Bay supports projects on three levels – local, national and international.

Locally, we support community causes including University Camp for Kids, Wheelchairs for Kids, Voiceworks Plus and Foodbank.

We have a strong bond with our ‘link’ school Dianella Secondary College. We sponsor some of their students in programs of personal development, driver education and public speaking.

Over 30 years ago we established a Memorial Garden at the King Edward Memorial Hospital where the ashes of stillborn babies are interred. It was upgraded over 10 years ago at a cost of $70,000 and a further major upgrade is being planned. RCMB Members regularly maintain the Garden so that families can return to this beautiful, peaceful place, and we hold a Memorial Service each year to mark Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Nationally, Australian Rotary Health is a major sponsor of health research and scholarships, donating some $3m annually. Currently the Fund’s focus is on mental health and we have supported health scholarship recipients. Currently we are supporting an Aboriginal student who is studying medicine at UWA.

Internationally, larger sustainable projects are often undertaken in conjunction with other clubs.

• We support Rotary’s global Polio Eradication program which is eradicating poliomyelitis – 99.9% of this dreaded paralysing disease has been eliminated with over 2 billion children immunised globally.

• We fund Shelterboxes to rapidly provide shelter to families following natural disasters.

• We have sponsored a Rotary Youth Exchange student to be hosted for 12 months by a Rotary club in an overseas country. In return, we delight in hosting an outstanding overseas high school student for a year in Perth.

In addition, Rotarians donate to The Rotary Foundation which provides funding for a huge range of Humanitarian and Educational programs as well as for our wonderful Peace Fellowships. These programs each support, by funding, Rotarians’ goals of worldwide understanding, goodwill and peace.

We are very proud of all that the Rotary Club of Matilda Bay achieves by providing help where it is most needed in our local, national and global communities – and we have fun at the same time!
