Prof Lynne Cohen

Professor Lynne Cohen (Order of Australia 2016) is a community psychologist, applied social psychologist and Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She was the Executive Dean of the School of Education and Professor of Psychology at Edith Cowan University (ECU). Lynne was awarded the Order of Australia in 2016 for her services to Higher Education. Lynne has a background in school teaching, having been head of the Biology and Mathematics departments at the Holy Rosary Convent in Johannesburg, South Africa.  Since joining ECU, Lynne has held a range of senior positions, including responsibility for curriculum development and the quality of courses. She has extensive experience in working with children with learning difficulties and has developed and implemented a targeted literacy program, including the training and management of a team of teachers to deliver the services to students and their families.  Lynne has received numerous Awards for Learning and Teaching within tertiary education and is an Australian Learning and Teaching Council Fellow.  

 

Over the past 25 years Lynne has undertaken numerous evaluation projects for government and non-government organisations using a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Lynne’s extensive experience in the design and implementation of research and interventions ranges from cognitive interpretations of depression, to social attribution theory, to program evaluation of crime prevention programs.  She has led a number of interdisciplinary research teams and is committed to a collaborative model involving community organisations. In particular, Lynne brings many years of experience in resiliency research with children and university students and has successfully developed transition programs which empower students and positively impact on their experience and outcomes. Her work in the area of resilience has included Aboriginal students in boarding schools and young people who identify as gay or lesbian.  Together with colleagues, she was instrumental in establishing the Lifespan Resilience Research Group at ECU.

 

Much of Lynne’s applied research and work associated with resilience has been published and presented at local and international conferences. She was formerly chief editor of the Australian Community Psychologist and the Journal of the College of Community Psychologists, and is a main author of a psychology text for university students.  She is a member of the Society for Community Action and Research, Division 27 of the American Psychological Association, and was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society.

Lyall Munslow-Davies

Mr Lyall Munslow-Davies is Senior Health Physicist in Safety, Health and Wellbeing (SHW) at The University of Western Australia., and a recipient of the 2017 Chancellor’s Medal. 

The main role of the SHW office is to develop and assist in the implementation of the UWA safety, health and wellbeing programs in order to minimise the risk of injury, illness and property damage. 

Lyall has had a wide and varied career as a technician, regulator, designer, innovator, manager and trainer. He has been involved with the design of radiological, radiation and radioactive substances facilities at UWA, QE II, Curtin, Murdoch and other medical and research institutions. 

Lyall has consistently proven to have a very strong safety culture and continuously strives to improve and integrate best practice safety solutions into all project work that he is associated with. He is an exceptional person who has provided many decades of valuable and exemplary service to the University and who cherishes learning and developing, assisting others and producing high quality and enduring work.
