Estelle has written 2 important and interesting books.

  1. Broken Lives

is the result of six years research and writing, finding and revealing fresh evidence which led to the exoneration of two men wrongfully convicted of killings in the 1960s - the longest-standing convictions to be overturned in Australia.  John Button and Darryl Beamish were both convicted for murders that were later proved to be committed by Eric Edgar Cooke the last man hanged in Western Australia in the Fremantle Gaol. Cooke was an Australian serial killer. From September 1958 to August 1963, he terrorised Perth,  by committing at least twenty-two violent crimes, eight of which resulted in deaths

  1. The End of Innocence: the Remarkable True Story of One Woman's Fight for Justice

goes behind the scenes and relates how the author came to write Broken Lives, the investigative trail, the suspects and the cops involved, the families she befriended. Passionate, inspiring and compelling, this book takes the reader on a journey to the heart of our criminal justice system.

These books are very topical at the present time as The West Australian newspaper is featuring original sound recordings of Cooke and his trial.

Estelle is a foremost expert on Cooke and his crimes and most recently was an advisor to a 4 part documentary series on Cooke and his impact on Perth. She can provide an overview on Cooke drawing on her investigations that led to her writing both the above books and subsequent successful efforts to have Button  and Beamish exonerated.  She can also reveal what it was like to hear Cooke’s actual voice on the tapes!
